Digital Proflier Package - Hawkeye 2000

The 2000 series Digital Profiler Package is a fully featured Hawkeye compatible profiling system. The system can be configured with a variety of sensors to enable the collection of data for Longitudinal Road Profile, Road Roughness, Slab Faulting, Macrotexture, Transverse Profile and Rutting.

Data from the system provides results in units of International Roughness Index (IRI), Ride Number (RN), Rut Depth, Mean Profile Depth (MPD), Sensor Measured Texture Depth (SMTD) and other indices.

Overview

The system includes a vehicle mounted measurement beam which is used to house the measurement sensors. A variety of lasers and laser/accelerometer combinations can be mounted on the beam in positions determined by the user. For transverse profile measurements of up to 3.5 m, angle-mounted lasers can be mounted on the ends of the beam to ensure the overall physical dimensions of the measurement beam do not exceed the maximum legal vehicle width.

An accurate Distance Measuring Instrument combined with a keyed database structure is used to precisely lock the data to distance (chainage). The data can also be linked with a GPS module.

Software

Software is available for real time Roughness and Rutting calculation and display, thus reducing post processing time and increasing user confidence during the survey.

Office-based processing software produces tables and graphs of results in the required units. Results are available in printed form or as data files which can be readily imported into commercial databases, spreadsheets and Asset Management Systems.

As part of the Hawkeye family, the 2000 series Digital Profiler Package is fully compatible with other Hawkeye packages and can be upgraded and reconfigured with a variety of sensors or features at a later stage.

Features and Benefits

  • The system can grow from a single laser roughness measurement device through to a 30+ laser system with transverse profile and high resolution macrotexture measurement.
  • All data linked to Chainage and GPS (optional)
  • Low and High speed vehicle operation
  • Results are independent of vehicle type
  • Processed data available in most common measurement units including IRI, Ride Number (RN), NAASRA counts, SMTD, MPD, Sand Patch Texture Depth (SPTD) Slab Faulting, as well as other indices.
  • Large data storage capacity, more than 10,000 km
  • System can be expanded by adding more sensors. No software upgrade required
  • Produces printable reports and graphs with database compatible files
  • Measurements possible on all sealed surfaces in all ambient lighting conditions.
  •  On-board real-time data processing confirms data integrity

Applications

  • Network Level surveys with international standard results for Asset Management and Pavement Management Systems
  • Accurate quality assessments for contractors and contract managers
  • Baseline surveys and contract validation

Gipsi-Trac Geometry

The 2000 series Gipsi-Trac Geometry Package is a Hawkeye compatible system using dead reckoning sensors and a GPS receiver to collect road geometry information for continuous 3D highway maps.

The package includes the Gipsi-Trac microprocessor based system which records and combines inertial data from gyroscopes, accelerometers and a distance sensor with GPS position.

The system produces a survey database of WGS84 and road geometry data which can be used in conjunction with the other Hawkeye systems and exported to PMS and other databases. The data is typically processed and analysed with the Hawkeye Processing Toolkit.

The package comes with the Gipsi-Trac system, cables and acquisition software.

Features and Benefits

  • Accurate and cost effective
  • Operates in all locations e.g. Tunnels, under bridges, highly vegetated or mountainous regions where GPS may not be reliable
  • Integrated GPS receiver and dead reckoning sensors
  • Applications
  • Provides road geometry and position for complex 3D highway mapping
  • Estimated Design speed and travel times
  • For use with the 2000-series packages

Acquisition Package

The Acquisition Package is the central hub of the Hawkeye 2000 series where all the packages are brought together into a fully integrated system solution.

The system is a rack mounted expandable solution containing one or more central processing units. The Onlooker Live in-vehicle software application controls and monitors the acquisition devices, network backbone and associated hardware.

Additional systems can be progressively added to this base unit to provide a truly scalable and dependable architecture. The system comes complete with a LCD flat panel screen and keyboard, power supply system and mounting hardware.

Features and Benefits

  • Complete kit for in-vehicle installation
  • Compact PC rack system with no dedicated equipment rack required - reduces vehicle size
  • Components can be progressively added over time
  • Unified database provides correlated data to reduce analysis time and enhance data portability
  • On-board real-time data processing confirms data integrity
  • Applications
  • Base acquisition system for Hawkeye 2000 range of solutions
  • Fitted to dedicated survey vehicle
