Over the next four years, Carl Bro Group will measure the bearing capacity of the national road network in South Africa.
Carl Bro Group has won one of the largest measurement assignments to date in the global road management market. In the coming four years, Carl Bro Group and its local partner, the asphalt contractor Blacktop, will measure the bearing capacity of the national road network in South Africa.
The project is being carried out at the request of the South African National Road Agency Limited, with the purpose of getting a complete overview of the condition of the road network, and thus better control of road maintenance in connection with dramatic investment in an improved infrastructure. For the duration of the project, Carl Bro Group will have a man stationed in South Africa as project manager for the local staff. Football World Cup The assignment includes more than 250,000 measuring points on the road network, including several road sections that will be used when South Africa plays host to the football World Cup in 2010. In addition to the measurements, GPS coordinates will be collected for each of the 250,000 measuring points to an accuracy of one metre.
Out of regard for road safety, a special safety plan has been prepared for the assignments, and for this reason special safety vehicles, warning signs that comply with European norms and remote control of warning signs will be used to achieve optimum safety for employees.
