PRI2100-S SUPER HEAVY WEIGHT DEFLECTOMETER SECURES SAFE LANDING FOR LARGEST AIRCRAFT IN THE WORLD.

06/12/2005
Carl Bro Group has as the first manufacturer in the world developed a falling weight deflectometer capable of measuring the bearing capacity of the airport pavements to be subjected to the giant aircraft Airbus A380.

Special demands are made on the airports to receive Airbus A380 in the future with its 80 meter in width and a weight of 560,000 kg. The aircraft will subject the pavement to a load of 30 tonnes per wheel. This means huge investments in the airports planned to be receiving the aircraft in France, Germany, England and Spain.

“The first order was awarded by Colas France, which is one of the larges asphalt contractors in the world. Colas will use the Super HWD for measurements in the French airports to become home bases for Airbus A380.” Klavs Olsen, Manager of International Operations, Carl Bro Group tells.

Developed on the basis know techniques

The PRI2100-S SHFWD trailer is a flexible solution from Carl Bro Group for measurements on pavements subjected to really heavy traffic such as the Airbus 380 aircrafts. It is a further development of the falling weight deflectometer techniques applied for the traditional falling weight deflectometers used in connection with the normal road maintenance.

Mounted on a double-axle trailer it is independent of the towing vehicle and can be towed by any vehicle. The only cable connecting the trailer with the towing vehicle is the PC computer cable. The operator controls all FWD functions from the PC, which is placed in the towing vehicle. This makes the measuring work simple and easy and only one operator is needed.
